Community Sustainable Energy Programme supported by the Big Lottery Fund

Community Sustainable Energy Programme

The Community Sustainable Energy Programme (CSEP) is a Big Lottery Fund (BIG) open grants scheme offering capital and project-development grants to not-for-profit, community-based organisations in England.  The scheme is managed by BRE, an award partner of the Big Lottery Fund.

Qualifying organisations can apply for capital grants of up to £50,000 or 50% of the project cost (whichever is lower) for installing microgeneration technologies and implementing energy efficiency measures.

Prior to an application to the capital grants scheme, organisations can apply for a project development grant in order to ensure the technical and financial viability of their project.  Project development grants of up to £5,000 or 75% of the study cost are available, whichever amount is lower.  Studies must be carried out by a BRE-registered consultant.

BRE have opened a two-month call for applications to the Register of Consultants.  If you are interested in applying to the Register, please complete and return the application form as soon as possible.

Please note that organisations and individuals that are in receipt of public funds to carry out promotion of renewable energy technologies are not eligible to apply to the Register of Consultants.

Moreover, project development study consultant cannot subsequently be appointed as the installers for the same scheme.

All successful applicants will receive written confirmation before being added to the Register.  The Register will be maintained primarily on-line via the scheme website and will also be made available in paper format from the enquiry line.

Applications must be received at BRE by 5pm 14th March 2008.  Late applications will not be considered.  If you require any further information, please email

Applicants will be notified of decisions within three weeks of the closing date.
